The cover is cheeseball and my dog popped through it super easy. Am worried because if my dog can pop it off coming in then probably a critter can too. The one for a wall is far better and more secure but this for the door is cheap and cheeseball. Cmon … this is an easy fix to make it more secure like the wall one.

Before this we used potty pads regularly due to a busy schedule and not always catching the dogs cues to be let out. We just moved and decided potty pads were not coming with us. We got this and installed it immediately before the dogs even came to the new house and they took to it almost immediately! It took very little training and by the third day there was not a single accident and they haven’t had any issues since. This has literally changed our lives for the better. It has eliminated so much extra work and cleanup with not having to clean potty pads or the little accidents that don’t quite make it on the potty pads all day every day!!!
My only complaint at all is the snap on door doesn’t seen very secure. We have come up with a temporary solution to keep it from being able to be pushed off the door from the outside but this is a big concern for safety and being away from home. It just snaps in place so it can be easily pushed from the outside and fall right off. We have tested it and it’s a terrible concept. Hopefully this can be modified for future models as this is a necessary safety feature.

For those of you who read the product title and description, you will notice it says dog AND cat door.

After installing it and making it available to my 3 cats and one small dog, I’ve come to the conclusion that these doors, no matter who makes them, with the vinyl hanging door flaps are not much more than a “nice thought”.

None of my 3 cats are willing to push the hanging vinyl door with their head to push their way through to the outside or inside. No matter how badly they want to come in or go out.

Two of my cats are feral and one is a rescue that I’ve had since he was 3 months old. My rescue is like my kid, I really love this cat (Conner). He’s very smart too.

I built a cat perch for him that extended high up a wall with custom steps for him to climb up. I showed it to him, put him in it and within the hour he was climbing up and getting down from it.

Conner pushes interior doors open to come in if I’m in the bathroom. He opens kitchen and closet cabinet doors and goes inside and hides when he wants to play.

I was building a tree house one day and Conner climbed up the tree so he could be up there with me while I worked. So he’s no dummy.

Conner, however, refuses to push open the hanging vinyl door to go in and out of the dog/cat door. He paws at it to push it open a little, but stops short of pushing through it to get to the other side.

And I have two of these doors mind you, this one, and one from another company with the same type of door and he won’t go through either of them.

My 2 feral cats are grandmother and grandson. Grandson is Conner’s age and these two cats can damn near get out of a cat trap when I’ve had to catch them to take them with me when I moved.

They’re tough as nails, but neither of them will push past the vinyl door. I’ve tried coaxing them through it with treats, sprayed catnip on the other side and no luck.

I think they just figure it’s another locked cage and they don’t even try to get through it. At least Conner toys with the door with his paw, they won’t even do that.

Finally, my dog Daisy. She’s 13 and I love that dog. I inherited her from a friend who passed away 2 years ago. He died knowing Daisy would be in good hands and I gave him my word, I’d take good care of her.

I thought for sure she’d get through this door with no problem. Nope. Won’t push through it. I’ve tried holding treats, calling her through, begging her to come through, but she just won’t.

The good news is that all of my pets walk and run freely and willing through these dog/cat doors if I tie the vinyl door up and leave it open for them. No problem at all.

The bad news is my house is now full of flies every day and night with those vinyl doors being held open for my pets. I hate flies more than anything, so now I’ve got some decisions to make.

I’ve tried shredding the doors with a razor knife and hanging up soft carpet shredded doors and the pets love those. Trouble with those, even with 2 and 3 layers of carpet, vinyl, sheets, whatever, the flies get through just as easily as the pets do.

Sometimes I think I can hear the flies laughing at me as they buzz in and land on my plate while I’m trying to eat dinner.

I don’t know. You tell me. Has anyone figured this out? If so, please, please… Please tell me.

Worked like a charm. I had a little bit of a problem making the hole in the door a bit smaller than the piece per instructions from paper I would suggest making the hole 1/4 bigger than the paper and the screws should work a lot better

I love them. I lost a family member my dogs spent a lot of time with, and accessed rooms I rarely use, so y installing these doggy doors I give them back their access to most of the house without having to leave the doors open. They got used to them quickly, a few treats and calling them for dinner helped them get through it.

I had one (and still do) for my office, which was a smaller door and that only one dog really used out of the three, and after installing these two new doors i think i am going to replace the smaller one upstairs with one like these.

It’s not hard to install (depending on how hard and thick your doors are) and I would recommend you go a size bigger than recommended. They look more comfortable through it.

I didn’t realize I was ordering the exact same pet door as the one I had bought over 10 years ago!
The only thing wrong with the old door was the flap had torn. So I tried something. I flipped the old door around to see if the screw holes matched. They matched!! Now I will order another flap to replace the damaged one so I can have an insulated doggie door. My new/old door will have a flap on both the outside and the inside creating an insulating air space.
The dogs have already figured it out. Smart ankle biters.
(Stepping up on soapbox) Now please tell me why other companies refuse to match up screw holes. For example, ANY part for a Harley must be year and model specific and even then you must pull a McGuyver to make it fit. Thank you PetSmart!

The size is perfect for our 3 dogs. 1 challenge, 1 Austin mix and 1 bullmastiff/pitbull mix fit great thru it and our cats use it too. There is no insulation and the flap does allow air to flow thru so it gets chilly by the door. It’s made of plastic and pretty durable for being plastic.

Previously had a pet safe sliding glass dog door insert, and it was fantastic, sealed well, super good build quality and the security cover slid into place and held securely, you would physically have to break through the 1/4” plastic door to get through as it was held in 3 sides with metal rails, so it didn’t budge.

Without checking, and they don’t show it well in the listing photos, I didn’t realize this one has a junky vacuum formed thin plastic cover to lock your dogs inside / outside, or for security, I was not convinced that this was secure and tapped the flap to get it to magnetically latch from the outside with this severity cover on and it fell off. It would prevent the dogs from getting out, but a squirrel could even get in just by leaning on it! I’ve fixed this to a degree by running sheet metal screws in from the top, bottom, and sides so it’s secure when we are not home because the large doors can easily fit a person through them, but this is an annoyance that the last door didn’t have and a serious let down. I will be 3d printing a much better mount for the cover to hold it securely

Also, the build quality is decent, but the plastic bolts won’t last. I understand why they do this as you don’t want extra long bolts sticking out one side for thinner doors so it allows you to easily cut them, but they make nuts that have a tube extension on them allowing them to secure with a large amount of adjustability and I’ll likely be switching to these shortly

the plastic screws break easily. had to go to the store for stainless screws

This is advertised as something that works in a thick solid door. However, it also easily adapts to a screen door application. Also this pet door it is so large, your pets can easily walk outside without jumping through a small hole.
I have a large sliding glass door to my backyard. My German shepherds need to go in and out. I went to a metal supply store and got a thick gauge separated metal sheet and cut it to the correct dimensions too screw onto my sliding screen door. This works far better than any Any metal mesh screen door protector you can buy at a Home Depot etc. you can also customize it yourself to the proper size. And it is far more sturdy than the flimsy screen protectors that you can buy at a store. This being said, this pet door, easily clamps around a screen door with a pet protector on it, much thinner than a solid wood door. The bolts that’s secure both sides of the pet door are made out of plastic and can easily be shortened after installation so they don’t stick out after installation. Works perfect, and this door is ideal for large dogs, especially ones with hip problems that don’t wanna jump out of the door. This thing is so large they just simply walk outside.
